These layered Patriotic Jell-O Shots are one of those party treats that instantly make people smile the second they see them.

Every time I make these for a Fourth of July cookout or summer gathering, somebody always asks, “Okay… HOW did you make those?” And honestly, they look way harder than they actually are.

The red, white, and blue layers make them perfect for patriotic holidays, backyard BBQs, lake weekends, fireworks parties, and summer celebrations. They’re festive, fun, and guaranteed to disappear fast once the tray hits the table.

I also love that you can prep them ahead of time the night before, which makes hosting so much easier — especially when the Arizona summer heat already has you tired before guests even arrive.

And topped with whipped cream and sprinkles? They feel extra fun and nostalgic in the best way.

These colorful layered Jell-O shots are sweet, creamy, festive, and perfect for patriotic celebrations.

Blue Layer:

  • 1 box blue Jell-O

  • 1 cup boiling water

  • 1/2 cup cold water

  • 1/2 cup vodka (optional)

White Layer:

  • 2 packets unflavored gelatin

  • 1/2 cup cold water

  • 1 cup boiling water

  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk

Red Layer:

  • 1 box red Jell-O

  • 1 cup boiling water

  • 1/2 cup cold water

  • 1/2 cup vodka (optional)

Garnish:

  • Whipped cream

  • Red, white, and blue sprinkles

Instructions:

  1. Dissolve blue Jell-O in boiling water. Stir in vodka and cold water. Fill cups 1/3 full and chill 2–3 hrs.

  2. Bloom gelatin in cold water. Add boiling water and stir until dissolved. Mix in condensed milk and cool slightly.

  3. Pour white layer over blue layer and chill 2–3 hrs.

  4. Dissolve red Jell-O in boiling water. Stir in vodka and cold water.

  5. Pour red layer on top and chill 2–3 hrs or overnight.

  6. Top with whipped cream and sprinkles before serving.

Serve chilled and enjoy!

  • Let each layer fully set before adding the next so colors stay clean and defined.

  • Slightly cool the white layer before pouring so it doesn’t melt the blue layer underneath.

  • Want a non-alcoholic version? Simply replace vodka with cold water.

  • Clear shot glasses or mini plastic cups show off the patriotic layers beautifully.

  • These are best served ice cold straight from the refrigerator.
