My Go-To House Seasoning Blend for Everyday Cooking

If there’s one thing you’ll almost always find sitting near my stove here in Tucson, it’s a jar of homemade seasoning blend. I grew up watching family members season food by instinct — a little shake of this, a pinch of that, tasting as they went until everything smelled just right. Somewhere along the way, I started making my own “house blend,” and now I honestly reach for it almost every single day.
This seasoning started as one of those “clean out the spice cabinet” experiments years ago, but now it’s become part of my kitchen rhythm. I use it on chicken, potatoes, vegetables, burgers, soups, roasted veggies, eggs… you name it. It saves time on busy nights and gives food that cozy homemade flavor without having to pull ten spice jars off the shelf.
There’s something comforting about simple kitchen routines like this. Tiny ordinary things can become little blessings when shared with people we love. Colossians 3:23 reminds us, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart…” and honestly, even seasoning dinner with care feels like a small act of love for your family.
This House Seasoning Blend is smoky, savory, flavorful, and incredibly versatile. It’s the kind of all-purpose seasoning that makes simple meals taste special without much effort.
Ingredients:
2 tbsp paprika
2 tbsp garlic powder
1 tbsp onion powder
1 tbsp black pepper
1 tbsp salt
1 tsp cayenne pepper
1 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp dried thyme
Instructions:
Add all ingredients to a bowl or mason jar.
Stir or shake until fully combined.
Store in an airtight container for up to 6 months.
That’s it — simple, easy, and ready anytime you need a quick flavor boost.
I usually keep mine in a little glass jar right beside the stove because I use it constantly. It’s especially good on roasted potatoes, grilled chicken, hamburger patties, oven fries, and even sprinkled into soups or scrambled eggs.
You can also make a double batch if your family cooks a lot like mine does during holidays and family weekends.
Adjust the cayenne if you like things milder or spicier.
Smoked paprika gives this blend an extra cozy flavor.
This seasoning makes a wonderful homemade gift in little jars.
Always shake the jar before using since spices settle over time.
Homemade blends help cut down on extra preservatives and mystery ingredients.
