Simple, Cozy, and Family-Approved
This chili right here is one of those meals I lean on when life feels a little busy, a little loud, and I just need something warm on the stove to bring everything back together.
Living here in Tucson, we may not get those long snowy winters, but we definitely get those evenings where you just want something cozy simmering in the kitchen. And for me, chili has always been one of those “gather around the table” kind of meals—simple, filling, and made with what you already have.
Most days, it’s just me and my daughter at home, so I’m always thinking about meals that stretch, reheat well, and don’t take a ton of effort. This one checks all the boxes. It’s made with pantry staples, a little bit of love, and honestly… it tastes even better the next day.
And I always think about this when I’m cooking something simple like this: God provides in the everyday, not just the big moments.
“Give us this day our daily bread.” — Matthew 6:11
Even a pot of chili can feel like a blessing when it feeds your family and fills your home with warmth.
This Ground Turkey Chili is hearty, flavorful, and just a little lighter than traditional chili—but you won’t miss a thing. It’s a one-pot meal that comes together easily and simmers into something rich and comforting.
Ingredients:
• 1 lb ground turkey
• 1 tbsp olive oil
• 1/2 onion, diced
• 1 red bell pepper, diced
• 2 cans kidney beans (drained and rinsed)
• 1 can crushed tomatoes
• 1 can diced tomatoes
• 2 tbsp chili powder
• 1 tsp cumin
• 1 tsp oregano
• 1 tbsp garlic (minced)
• 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
• 1 tsp black pepper
• 1/2 tsp salt
• 2 cups chicken broth
How to Make It:
Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the diced onion and red bell pepper and sauté for about 5 minutes until softened and fragrant.
Add the ground turkey and cook until it’s no longer pink, breaking it up as it cooks.
Stir in all remaining ingredients and mix everything together well.
Bring the chili to a gentle boil.
Reduce heat and let it simmer for 20–30 minutes, until thickened and full of flavor.
That’s it—simple, no fuss, and your kitchen will smell amazing.
• If you like a thicker chili, let it simmer a little longer uncovered.
• Want it milder? Just cut back on the cayenne—easy fix.
• This is perfect for meal prep—it reheats beautifully the next day.
• Serve it with cornbread, over rice, or even with tortilla chips for a fun twist.
• Double the batch and freeze half—you’ll thank yourself later on a busy night.
