Rich, Cozy, and Completely Irresistible

You know those bananas that sit on the counter just a little too long? Around here, that’s never a problem—it just means something extra good is about to come out of my kitchen.

This Double Chocolate Banana Bread is one of those recipes I turn to when I want something comforting but just a little indulgent too. I’ve made a lot of banana bread over the years, but this one… this one feels like a treat you’d bring out when family’s over or when you just need a little chocolate therapy after a long day.

There’s something so comforting about baking, especially when life feels busy or a little overwhelming. It reminds me of how God meets us right where we are—even in the middle of messy kitchens and overripe bananas.

“The Lord is my shepherd; I lack nothing.” — Psalm 23:1

Even the “extras” in life, like a slice of chocolate banana bread, feel like a little reminder of His goodness.

This bread is rich, moist, and full of deep chocolate flavor with just the right hint of banana sweetness. And that chocolate drizzle on top? Totally optional… but highly recommended.

For the Bread:

• 1 cup flour

• 1/2 cup cocoa powder

• 1/2 cup sugar

• 1/2 cup brown sugar

• 3/4 tsp baking soda

• 1/2 tsp salt

• 1 1/2 cups mashed banana

• 1/2 cup sour cream or yogurt

• 2 eggs

• 3 tbsp butter

• 3 tbsp oil

• 1 tsp vanilla

• 1 cup chocolate chips

Chocolate Drizzle (Optional):

• 1/4 cup chocolate chips

How to Make It – Bread:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and prepare a loaf pan.

  2. In one bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, brown sugar, baking soda, and salt.

  3. In another bowl, mix mashed bananas, sour cream (or yogurt), eggs, melted butter, oil, and vanilla.

  4. Gently fold the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until just combined.

  5. Fold in chocolate chips.

  6. Pour batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.

  7. Bake for 1 hour to 1 hour 10 minutes, until a toothpick comes out mostly clean.

  8. Let cool completely before removing from pan.

How to Make It – Drizzle:

  1. Melt chocolate chips until smooth.

  2. Drizzle over cooled bread.

  3. Let set before slicing.

That first slice? Soft, rich, chocolatey… and just melts in your mouth.

• The riper the bananas, the sweeter and more flavorful your bread will be.

• Don’t overmix the batter—this keeps it soft and tender.

• Let it cool before slicing so it holds together nicely.

• You can skip the drizzle for a simpler version—or go heavy if you’re feeling fancy.

• This freezes beautifully, so you can save a loaf for later (if it lasts that long!).
