This Broccoli Apple Salad is one of those recipes that surprises people the first time they try it. You look at the bowl and think, “Okay, that looks fresh and healthy,” and then suddenly you’re going back for a second helping because the sweet, crunchy, creamy combination is absolutely addictive.

I love making this when the Arizona heat starts creeping up because it feels cool, crisp, and refreshing without being boring. The apples add sweetness, the cranberries bring little pops of chewy tartness, and the creamy poppy seed dressing ties everything together beautifully.

This is also one of my favorite “make ahead” recipes because it actually tastes even better after chilling in the fridge for a bit. It’s perfect for cookouts, holiday dinners, church potlucks, baby showers, meal prep lunches, or just keeping something fresh in the fridge during a busy week.

And honestly? The crunch from the sunflower seeds and almonds makes this salad hard to stop eating.

This Broccoli Apple Salad is creamy, crunchy, sweet, tangy, and packed with texture in every bite.

For the Salad:

  • 2 heads broccoli — chopped (about 4 cups)

  • 2 apples — chopped (about 2 cups)

  • 1/4 cup red onion — diced

  • 1/3 cup slivered almonds

  • 1/4 cup sunflower seeds

  • 1/2 cup dried cranberries

For the Dressing:

  • 3/4 cup plain Greek yogurt

  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise

  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar

  • 2 tbsp honey

  • 1 tbsp sugar

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

  • 2 tsp poppy seeds

Instructions:

  1. Whisk yogurt, mayonnaise, vinegar, honey, sugar, lemon juice, and poppy seeds until smooth.

  2. Combine broccoli, apples, onion, almonds, sunflower seeds, and cranberries.

  3. Drizzle dressing gradually and toss to combine.

  4. Chill at least 1 hour before serving.

Serve cold and enjoy every crunchy bite.

  • Honeycrisp or Fuji apples work especially well in this salad.

  • Toss apples with a little lemon juice first if making ahead to help prevent browning.

  • Add crispy bacon for a savory twist.

  • Pecans or walnuts can be swapped in for almonds.

  • This salad pairs beautifully with grilled chicken, burgers, sandwiches, or holiday meals.
