Faith Over Fear in a World Full of Noise

I don’t know about you, but sometimes it feels like the world is just… loud. News alerts popping up, headlines changing every hour, everyone sharing something new—and not always something good. I’ve caught myself more than once sitting here in my Tucson home, phone in hand, feeling my heart start to race the more I scroll.

It’s a strange thing. We’re more connected than ever, yet somehow it can leave us feeling more anxious and alone than ever too. And as a mom and grandma, it hits differently—you start worrying not just about yourself, but about your kids, your family, and what kind of world they’re living in.

That’s why day two of Not Afraid is such a needed reminder: we were never meant to live consumed by fear. We were called to live by faith.

This devotional speaks right into the reality we’re living in today—constant information, constant updates, and constant opportunities to feel overwhelmed.

Now, information itself isn’t the problem. It can actually be a gift. It helps us respond quickly, stay informed, and care for others in real time. But when we take in too much, especially on our own, it can start to weigh heavy on our hearts.

Before we know it, fear starts creeping in.

And here’s the truth we sometimes need to hear gently but clearly:

fear is not from God.

2 Timothy 1:7 reminds us:

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.”

That doesn’t mean we’ll never feel afraid. Fear is a natural response sometimes—it can even help us make wise decisions. But we are not meant to live in it.

There’s a difference between feeling fear… and being led by it.

And when fear starts rising? That’s our cue to pray.

Instead of letting those thoughts spiral, we bring them straight to God. We say, “Lord, I don’t understand what’s happening, but I trust that You do.”

And then we lean into one of the most beautiful promises Jesus ever gave us.

John 14:27 says:

“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.”

Did you catch that word?

Gift.

Peace isn’t something you have to earn. It’s not something you have to chase down or figure out on your own. It’s something Jesus freely offers you—right here, right now.

Even in the middle of uncertainty.

Even when the headlines don’t change.

Even when the answers don’t come right away.

But here’s the key—we have to receive it.

That means choosing to turn our attention away from the noise and back toward God. It might look like putting the phone down for a little while. Taking a deep breath. Whispering a prayer. Sitting quietly, even for just a minute, and reminding your heart who is really in control.

We don’t live in fear.

We live by faith.

And that faith reminds us that no matter what is happening around us, God is still steady, still present, and still working all things together for good.

• Be mindful of how much information you’re taking in—too much can overwhelm your heart.

• When fear rises, let it be your reminder to pray, not panic.

• God did not give you a spirit of fear—He gave you power, love, and self-control.

• Peace is a gift from Jesus—you don’t have to earn it, just receive it.

• Choose faith daily, even when the world around you feels uncertain.
